For those of you who would like to give a Family Home Evening to your family, here is a lesson idea that goes along with Thomas S. Monson's talk, "The Power of the Book of Mormon"

Q) What
words or phrases are strong to you?
Critical
need, solemnly testifies that the Book of Mormon is true, I implore, I so
testify with all my heart, essential to have a testimony in these difficult
times. Keep testimony vital and alive. Firm, sure.
Q) What are your thoughts on why he
gave such a strong talk?
Explain that the
fact that he is using strong words in his talk shows the seriousness and importance
of his message! He is imploring and warning us greatly to read Book of Mormon.
Q) As
we study and ponder the Book of Mormon each day, what did Thomas S Monson say
the blessings will be? (There are four things
he says in paragraph 6) Be in a position to hear voice of spirit, resist
temptation, overcome doubt and fear, and receive heaven's help.
Q) Does anyone have
any experiences or thoughts on when you received these blessings, like when you
were in a position to hear the voice of the spirit, or you were able to resist
temptation, or you overcame doubt and fear, or when you received heaven’s help
because you were studying and pondering the BoM?
Explain how President Monson talks about how we need to have
our own personal testimony.
Q)How
does Thomas S Monson say we can keep our own testimony vital and alive? (There are three things he says in paragraph 5.) You can scripture
study, obedience to the commandments of God, and praying.
Q) How do you know you
have your own personal testimony?
What
he says towards the end is really good:
"If you will read it prayerfully and with
a sincere desire to know the truth, the Holy Ghost will manifest its truth to
you."
Explain that Thomas S Monson is telling us that the truth will be manifested to you when you
allow yourself to read the Book of Mormon prayerfully and with a sincere desire
to know the truth!
Q)What does it mean, the truth will be
manifested? Has anyone had any personal experiences of this that they are
comfortable sharing?
Q)What
did Monson say will protect us from the sin and evil in the world today? (There is one thing he says in paragraph 3) Strong testimony of our
Savior and the Gospel.
Read 3 Nephi 27:10. Explain how it relates to question before it: We know our church is built on the gospel, so if we have a strong testimony of the gospel, we'll be protected from sin and evil like Monson says.

Scripture- Jacob 7:11 (ALL of THE PROPHETS in the BOOK OF MORMON have
TESTIFIED)
The
Book of Mormon is the Keystone of our
religion.
Q)What does it mean by keystone?

If
Book of Mormon is true, then the Church is true also

want you to think of how the Book of Mormon has helped you; has it helped you
with your testimony? Have you found answers by reading the Book of Mormon? Have
you been able to solve problems by reading the Book of Mormon? So does anyone
want to share their thoughts on how the Book of Mormon has helped you? Or do you know someone else who has been helped by the Book of Mormon?
2)
What ways have worked for you in order to read the scriptures? Are there any
distractions that make it hard to read the Book of Mormon? And how do you
remind yourself to read the Book of Mormon?
3)Does
anyone want to share their favorite Book of Mormon story and tell us what you
liked about it or what you learned from it?

"My
dear associates in the work of the Lord, I implore each of us to prayerfully
study and ponder the Book of Mormon each day. As we do so, we will be in a
position to hear the voice of the Spirit, to resist temptation, to overcome
doubt and fear, and to receive heaven’s help in our lives. I so testify with
all my heart in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
